Hey James: YOu know my husband and some people I have met have said: "Expect the worst and you will never be disappointed." I always figured that was inherently negative because the expectation is for the worst. Now, my husband says: "Expect nothing" [one way or the other]. I think that is best because if you continually think folks'll let you down, then that energy will be drawn to you. Well imho:) Happy New Year:)
I think it's wrong, but it's human nature to think those things. I mean we're more inclined to mire in our own mediocrity and melancholy, then to be positive and be on the "up and up."
Being mirred in negativity, going through life being skeptical. Like watching a Batman movie, the picture is dark and dank, You feel no warmth, but that's a movie ....life really isn't that bleak..or gray
Is it about other's letting you down you or about letting yourself down..?
Honestly, I cannot say if it is right or wrong, because I at point or another have felt that way...and it is really a feeling that you have and no one can really judge it, especially considering that God orchestrates our lives, He may set it up for you to feel that way so that yo can see things in a different light or maybe not be so concern about what people have to offer and focus on Him, whatever the reason only God knows and have a solution for it all :-)
@ mahndisa: i've never met anyone who failed to disappoint. it was just a matter of time for most folks... @ danyel: yes, i agree that you miss out on alot of life, but it seems to be that when i avoid disappointing relationships, i have more time for self development. most times i feel that if i want to attract better people i need to be better myself. the main issue is, if i avoid human relationships, how can one attract those that do the same? @ jaimie: i don't think i am a pessimist as much as i am a realist. i always see optimism as avoidance of the issues. @ rell: i always strive to rise above medicracy, even if i am mirred in negativity, which i may be... @ alli: the set of the batman movies is beautiful. i really like the imagery of tim burton in all of his endeavors. @ kween: do you believe in destiny or fate? @ alli: i am well, thank you. @ all-of-the-above: thank you for your responses. all of you had points of view that i may not have considered. i see myself most in the second opinion of mahndisa's husband though. giving people a chance is harder and harder, as i get older. it seems as if the more i grow set in my ways, the more i demand more of others. i also demand more of myself as well too...
Its disappointing to me that as I got older people were not growing and still doing things that I considered immature. But I have faith and I give everyone a fair chance of trust. Once they lose it, it's rarely given back.
I have faith that in time I won't have to deal with so much disappointment!
Each day is a present. Unwrap it with joyous expectation, but be prepared to return it if it's the wrong size.
The only one who will never disappoint is God, and even then there will be times when it *seems* diappointing. Just remember you ain't read the end of the book yet.
You've piqued my curiousity. Do you believe in destiny or fate?
Thanks for adding me to your blog role. I've returned the love.
Keep fighting your way to the surface. Breath in deep gulps of air. For reasons I cannot explain, I believe in you. You are brave. You are honest. You ae man enough to choose to be vulnerable.
That has got to be a terrible way to feel. Where is the happiness and peace in thinking that everyone will let you down?
Sometimes, life does make us feel this way and it is painful. I think that when you always expect the worst, you build up this wall so that you're never dissappointed.
Like kween007 said, I can't really say if its right or wrong either, but its definitely an interesting question.
@ juicy: thats a very cool way to look at life. i can get with that...
@ diane: i do not believe in fate or destiny. i believe that i can control where i am by where i go. it just so happens that the elements of life seldom disagree with my direction. i find that to be coincidence and not fate. (smile)
@ "n" search: sure i have a wall of protection. the wall has a window and a door as well. i may even be suseptable to a trojan horse or two.
@ anonymous: do you desire for me to feel small or seek psychiatric care? does it rain where you live?
I am late coming back to this, but I definitely believe in destiny...that our lives are mapped out and what we enter in to is what we were destined to go through...

But if you don't think people will deliver one way or the other, well at least there is room for disappointment and or enjoyment:)

Disappointment is fleeting....
Expectations are human...
Thinking the worst is not the way you should live your life...
Expect nothing... only you can create your happiness...you allow others to attempt to.
Hey you...hope all is well.
